In a Medium post this afternoon, the Twitter-owned service that allowed users to create 6-second sharable loops of video said it soon would discontinue the app. Users will be able to download all the videos they created, and the Vine website will stay online, but the mobile app used to make Vines will be discontinued.

Vine seems to be a casualty of the problems Twitter is having as it tries to steady itself for a possible sale. But it was struggling even before this. After Twitter bought the service in 2012 and launched it in 2013, it garnered many devotees but never quite caught on in a huge way. Says The Verge:

Last weekend an elderly woman cruising through The Spree music festival in Paisley, Scotland just as local band Badboys were preparing to finish up their set for the day, closing out the Scottish music festival with AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell,” a nod to the band’s late frontman Bon Scott.

They expected the crowd to get excited, but what they didn’t expect was this tiny, elderly woman to stop her walker right in front of the stage and immediately start dancing, clapping and waving her arms about as she busted out some pretty sweet dance moves; viewers who either saw our new rock and roll heroine perform live or watched it via one of the many, many videos posted over the weekend were amazed, but no one was more amused than the guys in Badboys themselves.

“She was amazing and we couldn’t believe the moves that she was coming away with,” says Badboys bassist Billy Kinnear. “We were all shouting from the stage, ‘Look at her, she’s awesome!’ She stole the show.
With moves like that, she must have been a rocker back in the day. We’d love to know the gigs that she’s been to. It was such a great buzz. It made our day and everyone else’s.”

Accused rapist offers a weird defense, claims his penis size is too small for him to rape anyone

A man who was accused of rape in Canada put up an unusual defense. He told the jury during his court case that he couldn't have raped anyone because his penis is too small. The lawyer for the accused man told the court, “His stomach is too large and his penis is way, way too small,” reports the Ottawa Citizen.

44-year-old Jacques Rouschop is accused of raping and choking two sex workers in 2013 in his pickup truck.

A registered nurse testified in court that when she took the suspect’s measurements in jail, his penis was about 2 inches when erect. The 5-foot-6 Rouschop also weighed about 400 pounds at the time of the alleged attacks and has an umbilical hernia about the size of a baseball, reports the National Post.

To support his case, jurors were shown photographs of his naked body.

Emma said:

“We’d both been drinking the night before so we couldn’t drive. I had to make the most embarrassing call to the ambulance at 7am. The call handler said ‘tell me exactly what the problem is’ so I had to tell him.”

Emma said:

 “At that point it was just more surreal than anything. I didn’t feel much pain at that point  I was in too much shock. The doctors were really good – they all moved quite quickly and were so reassuring telling me they saw it quite often which was quite a relief. 

At first we were jokey about it but then realised it wasn’t much of a joke especially when there was talk of going through my stomach if they couldn’t get it.” “I think before that I thought of it as just a little operation to get it out, I still wasn’t taking it that seriously. When he said that – that only when I woke up would I know whether they would have to cut me open – it was really scary.”

At 12pm Emma underwent the surgery which involved placing a camera down her throat and the surgeon pressing on her stomach before manually extracting it.Emma said:

“My daughter was staying with my mum and dad as I stayed at Lee’s the night before.

“I wasn’t going to tell them but then I was going into surgery I knew we were going to have to say something so I told my mum the real reason. I just took some painkillers and was told not to use stuff like that again until I was ready.  I’ve learnt that I’ll need to be a bit more careful in the future. 

“Lee’s not been scarred by it – he just thinks it’s funny. I think he should have one up his bum and take one for the team.”We weren’t going to do anything about it because of the embarrassment – there’s a big taboo about it – but we knew we needed help. 

“I want to say a massive thank you to the ambulance crew and Wrexham Hospital staff who were really good, really reassuring and non-judgemental. There is a big taboo about this, but it really isn’t a big deal. You hear about people becoming really ill or even dying because they’re too embarrassed to get help – I would hate that to happen to someone.”
