So long, six seconds. Vine is going away.
In a Medium post this afternoon,
the Twitter-owned service that allowed users to create 6-second
sharable loops of video said it soon would discontinue the app. Users
will be able to download all the videos they created, and the Vine
website will stay online, but the mobile app used to make Vines will be
discontinued.
Vine seems to be a casualty of the problems Twitter is having
as it tries to steady itself for a possible sale. But it was struggling
even before this. After Twitter bought the service in 2012 and launched
it in 2013, it garnered many devotees but never quite caught on in a
huge way. Says The Verge:
