Zayn Malik Preps Autobiography

Musician to detail childhood, stint with One Direction, budding solo career through text, photographs, illustrations

Zayn Malik will tell the story of his life so far in a new autobiography, Zayn, set to be published November 1st via Penguin Random House.

The book will blend personal stories, thoughts, drawings and never-before-seen personal photographs. Malik will touch on his childhood in Bradford, England, his rise to fame as a member of One Direction and transition into a solo artist. In the first few pages he writes, "I'm going to show you as much as I can so that you can judge me on my own terms, not on what the press or anyone else says."
Zayn is priced at $19.99 and is available to pre-order

Malik began his career as a contestant on the U.K. X-Factor, where he was eventually paired with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan to form One Direction. Though the group finished third, they quickly became one of the biggest bands in the world.

One Direction released their first album, Up All Night in 2011, kicking off a constant cycle of touring and recording. They would release three more albums in as many years, all of which topped the Billboard 200. But in March 2015, as the group toured in support of their 2014 LP, Four, Malik announced his departure from One Direction, saying, "After five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I'd like to apologize to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart."
While One Direction released one more album, 2015's Made in the A.M., before announcing their own hiatus, Malik launched his solo career this year with Mind of Mine. Along with his autobiography, Malik is plotting a new scripted NBC series, Boys, that will be based off of his experiences in One Direction.
