Rio 2016: Watch What Happened To A French Gymnast.

French athlete Samir Ait Said has tragically broken his leg while performing in the Men's Vault at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Samir was competing in the qualification of the Men's Vault when he landed awkwardly, breaking his left leg below the knee.

The cracking noise was so loud it could be heard over the coverage.

Some have said it was so loud it "echoed through the arena".

Following his injury, Samir laid motionless and simply put a hand over his face to try and cope with the excruciating pain.

Paramedics immediately rushed to his side, tended to his leg and stretchered the Olympian away.

Upon leaving the building, Said was subject to an ovation from the crowd within the Rio Olympic Arena, and bravely raised a hand to his supporters.

French team leader Corrine Moustard-Callon confirmed Said had broken his leg, adding: "He is in the hospital with a doctor now.

The 26-year-old is most famously know for his performances on the rings and the vault. Having previously won gold on the former at the 2013 European Championships.

We all pray for fast recovery for the 26-year-old.
